Agriturismo with wine cellar in Tuscany
I knew the girl who manages the reception, as she used to work for another agriturismo. She was very eager to show me around this estate, so, one fine day in October, I paid her a visit. The agriturismo is situated a 10-minute drive from a typically Tuscan village with a few bars, restaurants and grocery stores. Not long ago, the beautiful village started to attract tourists, so that it is now a popular destination for lovers of culture, art, nature and hiking. The estate lies off Tuscany’s beaten tracks, yet its central position allows easy access to its highlights. By car, Pisa and Lucca can be reached within an hour, Volterra within thirty minutes, and the sea is less than an hour away.
The agriturismo is situated on a hill, with a well-kept access road, almost exclusively for the use of the guests. The agriturismo is a lovingly restored 17th-century farm, that boasts 150 hectares of farmland. About twenty hectares of it are dedicated to vineyards and 3000 olive trees. The agriturismo produces excellent wine, organic olive oil, and a modest amount of honey. You can taste and buy these products in its wine cellar.
The apartments
The agriturismo’s interior is rustic and typically Tuscan. The same style is maintained throughout the 3 buildings. The central building has 7 apartments. In addition, there are two separate houses with an apartment each. One of the houses is situated a little further away, behind the pool, making it perfect for a couple. The other is a generous size and is next to the entrance to the agriturismo. The central building contains 3 apartments on the ground floor and 4 on the first floor; they are all very spacious and each one has its own outdoor seating area. Some are bilocale apartments, with one bedroom and a sofa-bed in the living room, the others are trilocale apartments with two bedrooms. Their style is typically Tuscan, with arched ceilings and a rural atmosphere. Some of the apartments have a dishwasher. There is a shared washing machine, but the larger apartment has one of its own.
Swimming pool, tennis court, ping-pong table and table football
At a stone’s throw from the apartments is a splendid infinity pool with views of the hills, reclining chairs and a dressing room with a hot shower. Next to the pool is a training course with fitness devices, and below the veranda there are table-football and ping-pong tables. If you’re into sport, it’s nice to know there is a tennis court on the estate, a bit further away from the apartments, which can be used at no charge. If you are a dab-hand at tennis, bring your own racket. You can also obtain one at the reception.
Wine cellar and wine tastings
On a hill only a few minutes’ drive from the agriturismo, is the agriturismo’s magnificent wine cellar that offers weekly wine tastings at no cost. The tasting takes place on a beautiful terrace commanding a wide panorama, so you enjoy breathtaking views while sipping the excellent wines.
You can take a pleasant walk to get there, through vineyards and woodland, 700 metres on a gently sloping path, or drive up there in 2 minutes.
In short
A first-class agriturismo for holidaymakers who prefer a pastoral location not far from Tuscany's major destinations. Suitable for children and wine lovers!
You will get a warm, attentive, hospitable welcome.
